The following are the major incidents reported to Securitas, Rossmoor’s security service provider. They appear here as they were initially reported to Securitas. After investigation, details of a case may indicate a lesser or different incident description. If the case warrants it, the News will do a follow-up story.

Thursday, Sept. 17 Vehicle accident: Securitas reported at 9:04 a.m. that the driver of an oversized truck in lane 1 of the front gate backed into another vehicle after being instructed to wait by a Securitas gate officer. There was no apparent damage to the truck, but the second vehicle had minor front hood damage. Both drivers exchanged information.

Vehicle accident: An RWC employee reported at 5:25 p.m. a two-vehicle accident near Entry 5 of Tice Creek Drive that resulted in one vehicle rolling over. The Walnut Creek Police Department and Contra Costa Fire Protection District also responded. The driver told Securitas she was driving on Tice Creek Drive when she accidentally hit a parked car. ConFire extracted the driver from the overturned vehicle, and she was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Monday, Sept. 21 Civil: A resident reported an incident from Sept. 20, when she was at a lawn bowling event and taking pictures from the sidewalk and a male began yelling at her. She said the man began walking toward her, and she stepped back and tripped and went to a hospital for evaluation.

Scam: Securitas was contacted by a man who said someone tried to scam his father. The son said a scammer came to his father’s Ptarmigan Drive home around 3 p.m. and tried to collect $6,500 after claiming the man’s granddaughter had been in a car accident and was in jail. The scammer offered to take the resident to the bank, but he refused, his son told Securitas. The case was reported to Walnut Creek police, who obtained license plate information on the suspected scammer.

Wednesday, Sept. 23 Theft: A resident reported two golf battery chargers were taken from his garage in the 5900 block of Horsemans Canyon Drive sometime on Sept. 21. Estimated value is $1,650.

Former Obama White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer to speak at the Oct. 6 event

Democrats of Rossmoor

By Democrats of Rossmoor

The Democrats of Rossmoor will hold its monthly TGWD (“Thank Goodness We’re Democrats”) meeting in the Fireside Room at Gateway on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m.

At this Rossmoor event, the League of Women Voters (LWV) will discuss the pros and cons of all 14 of the propositions that will be on the November ballot. By attending, residents can help ensure that they are prepared to fill out their ballot with confidence.

The League speakers will also provide information about a major LWV GOTV (“get out the vote”) initiative that engages and encourages concerned citizens to help

rally people to vote to protect the right to vote. The initiative called “Unite and Rise 8.5” aims to engage and mobilize 8.5 million voters through advocacy, civic education and community engagement.

Speaking at the meeting will be representatives from the League of Women Voters.

LWV is a nonpartisan, grassroots civic organization founded in 1920 to help women exercise their right to vote after the 19th amendment passed. Its mission is to encourage informed and active participation in government, increase understanding of public policy issues and influence public policy through education and advocacy.

While historically focused

on women’s civic engagement, it now welcomes all genders and emphasizes impartiality regarding candidates while taking positions on issues after member study and consensus.

For example, on April 17, 2025, Celina Stewart, CEO of the League of Women Voters, and Dianna Wynn, president of the League of Women Voters, took the serious step of labeling the current moment as a constitutional crisis and concurrently announced the “Unite and Rise 8.5” initiative.

Residents are invited to join this informative and critical conversation. Email info@democratsofrossmoor.org for more information.

Dems to host League of Women Voters

By Democrats of Rossmoor

The Democrats of Rossmoor are hosting a fundraiser on Tuesday, Oct. 6 for Measure W, the $168-per-year parcel tax for the Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD) on the Nov. 3 ballot. This parcel tax will close the funding gap AUHSD faces.

It will continue for eight years with no cost of living adjustment (COLA) in any of those years. Home and condominium owners 65 and over are eligible for an exemption. Check the AUHSD website at https://tinyurl. com/2pheee9z for more information.

Dan Pfeiffer, former White House communications director for President Barack Obama and the co-host of Pod Save America, will be

the featured speaker at the Oct. 6 event, which starts at 3:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room. With the midterms coming quickly and so much on the line, Pfeiffer will dig into what’s actually at stake nationally and how it connects to what Democrats are fighting for locally with Measure W.

Also, AUHSD students will share why they support Measure W. A $25 donation to Measure W is recommended for this event. Residents can donate at the following link: www. yesforourhighschools.com

A donation can be made at the event with a check to Yes on W 2026. Email info@democratsofrossmoor.org if Rossmoor gate access is needed. Join the Democrats of Rossmoor for this engaging program!
