The Hearing Loss Association of America Diablo Valley Chapter (HLAA-DV) will celebrate 42 years of helping people stay connected with a special anniversary gathering, “42 Years of Connections,” on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Club Room at the Creekside complex.

Instead of its usual educational program, the chapter will spend the morning celebrating the friendships, shared experiences and sense of community that have brought people together through more than four decades of support and advocacy.

Everyone is welcome, includ-

ing members, guests, spouses, partners, caregivers and anyone interested in learning more about hearing loss. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments, fun interactive activities and plenty of time for conversation with others who understand the challenges and successes of living with hearing loss.

Since 1984, HLAA-DV has served people throughout Rossmoor and Contra Costa County by providing education, encouragement and practical resources. The chapter helps individuals and families learn about communication strategies, captioning, hearing assistive technology and ways to remain active, involved and connected.

The anniversary celebration will feature lighthearted activities, shared memories from the chapter’s history and recognition of the dedicated volunteers whose time, talent and compassion have helped sustain the organization for 42 years.

Organizers especially encourage those newly experiencing hearing loss, exploring hearing technology or supporting a loved one with hearing difficulties to attend. No previous involvement with HLAA is required. Whether you are seeking information, support or simply a chance to meet new friends, you will find a warm welcome.

The Club Room is equipped with a hearing loop assistive

listening system to help participants hear more clearly and comfortably. The event will be held in person only and will not be available on Zoom.

Admission is free. An RSVP made at https://hlaadv.org/RSVP-1026 is appreciated to assist with seating and refreshments. Walk-ins are also welcome.

HLAA-DV is a volunteer-led organization dedicated

to education, support and advocacy for people with hearing loss. Visit https://hlaadv.org/home for information.

Sound advice: Your ears never turn off. Even when you’re asleep, your ears keep working. Your brain simply decides which sounds to ignore. That’s why a small noise can wake you while your partner’s snoring doesn’t. Selective listening: it’s not personal; it’s biology.

Though not a grief support or therapy group, Rossmoor’s Death Café offers a safe place to discuss such end-of-life issues as the challenges of aging; how to live well now and find meaning; the demands of being a caregiver; how to have conversations about final plans and wishes with family and friends; what constitutes a good death; and other late-life concerns.

The Rossmoor Death Café is co-facilitated by Bess Chosak, a retired nurse who helped found America’s first hospice program, and Jim Greenberg, a retired physician. Both were primary caregivers for their late spouses.

In addition to the Death Café, the Rossmoor End of Life Concerns Club presents thematically relevant films and programs on the third Monday of every month. Look for announcements in the Rossmoor News. Go to www.Deathcafe.com to learn about the Death Café movement or to find out about other Death Café meetings. Go to www.RossmoorEOLCC. org or contact Jim Greenberg at 1-412-736-2317 or endoflife concerns@gmail.com to learn more about the Rossmoor End of Life Concerns Club.

Contact Patty Harrington, membership co-chair, by text at 1-707-246-1152 (preferred) or email phbase@aol.com to become a member. Membership is $25 annually for the calendar year from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. Join now and get three months free!
