The Rossmoor End of Life Concerns Club will hold a program on religious and spiritual traditions at the end of life on Monday, Oct. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Club Room at Creekside.
The program will feature four panelists: Rabbi Debra Hachen, rabbi emerita of Congregation B’nai Shalom and Rossmoor resident; the Rev. Will Scott of St. Anselm Episcopal Church; the Rev. Carol Dolezal, retired Hospice chaplain; and Sensei Alan Block with the Everyday Zen center.
Each panelist will discuss perspectives from their theology and spiritual tradition, including Judaism, Christianity and Buddhism. A Q&A session will be held at the end of the presentations. This program is co-sponsored by Rossmoor’s Interfaith Council and Buddhist Study Group.
Speakers will address topics such as the important rituals and practices recommended before dying; use of life support interventions and its withdrawal; organ donation and transplantation; determining when death occurs; use of Medical Aid in Dying; and cremation vs. burial.
Panelists will also discuss frequent questions and concerns from congregants as they approach their final days. Handouts providing information on various religious and spiritual practices will also be available.
All Rossmoor residents are welcome to attend this presentation. Due to three Rossmoor Clubs sponsoring this program, a large attendance is expected. Arrive early to find available seating.
