By Bible Study

Bible Study meets in small groups at 9:30 a.m. every Thursday at Dollar Clubhouse (except when on break). There are four small groups: three for women, and one for men. Starting on Oct. 8, there will be a co-ed class at 9:30.

This week’s lesson, 1 John 3:1-24, focuses on God’s sacrificial love, which makes us His children, and this identity calls us to live in righteousness, love one another in action and have confident assurance before Him.

At 10:30, everyone gathers to sing some favorite hymns, then dig more deeply into the lesson for the day with commentaries given by Bible Study teachers and pastors from Valley Bible Church, Pleasanton, and Altamont Bible Church, Livermore. These talks are down-to-earth and presented with enthusiasm and knowledge. Refreshments are served at the end of the meeting.

Come join in! Some come for the first time, and others return regularly to refresh their lifelong relationship with God. Everyone is welcome, men and women.

Additionally, Bible Study has visitation teams available for anyone who would like prayer or a visit. For more information, contact Dawn Sunday at 1-650-491-4842.

By Buddhist Study Group

The Rossmoor Buddhist Study Group invites residents to join the monthly roundtable discussion meeting on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Club Room at Creekside Clubhouse. Everyone is welcome.

The meeting begins with a short video presentation, followed by time for each table to discuss what was seen. Currently, the club is using the course “Walking the Eightfold Path With Jack Kornfield.” Each video presents a complete dharma talk, so it is not necessary to have attended other sessions.

In Buddhist tradition, the Eightfold Path is considered one of the earliest teachings given by the Buddha after his enlightenment. It is said to contain the way out of the suffering that

is part of human existence. Kornfield presents an in-depth analysis of each of the steps in this teaching.

Kornfield is an American-born Buddhist monk who received his training in Asia, then returned to the United States in the 1970s. He is one of the founders of the Insight Meditation Society and a co-founder of the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre.

The Buddhist Study Group was established in 2017 to offer a contemporary approach to Buddhist teachings. Its goal is to cultivate self-awareness, balance and compassion in a supportive community. For more information about the group, see the club’s website at www. bsgrossmoor.com or email Diane Kepner at dkepner2@yahoo.com for information about this event.

By ECK Spiritual Adventurers Club

The ECK Spiritual Adventurers Club explores spirituality and invites all to its third of three free workshops on “How to remain calm in this uncertain world” on Friday, Oct. 2 from 2:50 to 4:30 p.m. in the Eisenhower Room on the second floor of Dollar Clubhouse.

Please bring someone to help if you need assistance.

Readers may ask, “Does this really work?” Yes, if they practice the six spiritual techniques shared. Here are the fifth and sixth techniques:

5. Surrender the situation: “Every problem contains a

solution. The key is self-discipline and surrender of the mental habits to the Holy Spirit,” wrote, Harold Klemp in “The Language of Soul,” page 68. 6. Give service with love: “Other times the most secret part of yourself reveals itself through the loving service that you give to others,” wrote Klemp in “Our Spiritual Wake-up Calls,” page 55.

ECK is an ancient word for Divine Spirit/Holy Spirit. Eckankar is an active, individual and creative spiritual practice that offers many benefits, including a deeper understanding of Love, Wisdom, and Freedom.

People of all faiths, religions, and beliefs are welcome to attend and experience a spirit of divine love and respect, while exploring new ways of looking at life. See how a spiritual point of view offers a strong foundation and a life support anchor in the tumultuous seas of today’s world.

Welcome to the interesting and interactive meetings of the ECK Spiritual Adventurers Club, usually on the first and third Friday of the month, from 2:50 to 4:30 p.m. in the Eisenhower Room at Dollar Clubhouse. Visit www. eckankar.org and/or write to eck.in.rossmoor@gmail.com to learn more.
