The next 10-session “Acting Our Lives” course begins Friday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Garden Room, located at the rear of Dollar House. (Locations for subsequent sessions will vary.)
This program has been running successfully for 10 years, and offers a warm, judgment-free environment for both beginners and advanced students. Come take a risk!
The classes combine creative story writing – drawn from personal experience or fiction – with engaging acting exercises. The series includes guidance through the story development process, with constructive feedback from the instructor and peers.
There is one private coaching session with professional acting coach Bobbi Ausubel. The class is known for its final free public performance before a live audience in Las Trampas, along with an opportunity for a TV presentation (past performances can be viewed in the Rossmoor TV archive). Performing is optional.
Tuition is $100. Scholarships are generously available, and a portion of the fee is donated to the sponsor, The Giving Tree Club, which supports organizations in need.
The course is facilitated by Ausubel, a theater director and Rossmoor resident. Her background includes 13 years as artistic director of the Caravan Theater in Cambridge, 20 years teaching acting at the Boston Conservatory, directing for various theater companies, and teaching in Bay Area elementary schools.
There is no registration required; simply join on Oct. 16. Residents are welcome to attend the first class for free; simply come on Oct. 16. Email Bobbi.Gloria.Ausubel@gmail. com or call 1-650-743-4212.
