Join Sustainable Rossmoor on Friday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. in Dollar Clubhouse for a conversation about how organic and regenerative landscaping practices can create healthier, safer and more resilient community landscapes.

Because residential landscapes serve as everyday spaces for residents, children, pets and wildlife to enjoy, the way they are maintained matters. This presentation will explore how reducing synthetic chemicals, improving soil health, supporting pollinators and using water more efficiently can help communities enjoy beautiful landscapes while promoting a healthier outdoor environment for everyone who uses them.

Drawing from decades of landscape management experience throughout the Bay Area, Mike Gachina will share practical examples of how sustainable landscape

stewardship can improve plant health, reduce water consumption, increase drought resilience, and create outdoor spaces that are safer for families and pets.

Attendees will learn why healthy soil is the foundation of a thriving landscape, and how small changes in maintenance practices can deliver long-term benefits for both the community and the environment. Plenty of time will be reserved for questions and discussion.

Peacock Hall tip: Do not bring in extra chairs. This is a serious safety violation. The movie will not be started if this is

done prior to the showing.

Rossmoor residents are invited to help the Rossmoor Lions Club sort donated eyeglasses on Friday, Oct. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Club Room at Creekside Clubhouse. This is a casual event that volunteers and their friends can enjoy while sitting.

The eyeglasses to be sorted were customer returns to the Zenni Optical corporation, an online eyeglass company that, in turn, donated them to the Lions In Sight Foundation eyeglass warehouse in Vallejo. The glasses need to be unwrapped and boxed before being sent to California prisons for processing. Trained inmates use Lions Club lensometers to determine the prescriptions, repackage the glasses and record the prescription. The eyeglasses are sent to Lions In Sight clinics within California, Latin America, Asia and Africa.

The eyeglasses donated by Rossmoor residents are handled the same way. Lions Club members collect the glasses for packaging and shipment to the participating prisons. Lions

Club greatly thanks Rossmoor residents for donating approximately 6,000 pairs of glasses every year.

Residents are encouraged to donate used eyeglasses, sunglasses (prescription and non-prescription), hearing aids and plastic bread tags to Lions Club. Collection points are located just inside the Gateway front door and between the Woodshop and Lapidary studios. Before depositing items in the Lions Club collection lo-

cations, eyeglass cases should be discarded and hearing aid batteries should be taken to RPM/MOD at 800 Rockview.
