Residents are reminded not to walk close to the trucks from Republic Services and not to engage the drivers while they are operating the vehicle.
Drivers have reported that multiple residents have walked behind, in front of or next to trucks while they are moving or backing up, said Republic Service Municipal Manager Kimberly Lam. Residents have attempted to throw in one last bag of trash before the truck empties the container; others have approached drivers while they are operating the truck to ask about their service days.
These trucks frequently back up when picking up trash and recycle from entries in Rossmoor. Although the trucks are equipped with backup cameras, Lam explained that blind spots still exist so it’s not always easy for a driver to see pedestrians who walk behind or alongside the truck. Residents with hearing loss also might not hear the beeper that signals when the trucks are moving in reverse.
