By Laurel Lee-Alexander Rossmoor Fund

The Rossmoor Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Rossmoor community, is seeking a treasurer.

As a member of the Fund’s volunteer board of directors, the treasurer’s responsibilities include:

• Processes monthly checks using QuickBooks

• Coordinates with an external accounting firm that manages month-end close and prepares financial statements.

Guided by the principle of neighbors helping neighbors, the Fund raises and distributes emergency financial assistance to Rossmoor residents in need through a confidential application process. The Rossmoor Fund board of directors meets the first and third Thursdays of each month from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Rossmoor residents with appropriate experience are encouraged to contact Claire Wolfe, Rossmoor Fund president, at 1-925-708-5761. Visit www.rossmorrfund.org for more information about the Rossmoor Fund.

The Stanford Club of Rossmoor invites all alumni and friends to an exciting dinner event on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. in the Diablo Room at Hillside Clubhouse. The club’s special guest will be Marco Casalaina, vice president of Products, CoreAI and AI Futurist at Microsoft, discussing “The Future of AI is Here.”

Computer “helpers” called AI agents are getting a lot smarter … at a rapid pace. They are capable assistants that can plan, work with other programs, pass jobs to other apps, and work inside apps people already use.

Casalaina will show us examples of what AI agents do and why they are so useful. He will also show us how people can make sure AI assistants behave well, remain trustworthy, and do a good job as they take on more real-world tasks. He is an expert in cloud computing, with years of experience bringing the power of the cloud to artificial intelligence, call center and unified communications applications.

The festivities begin at 5

p.m. with a social hour, followed by a catered buffet dinner from Simple Elegance. Attendees can choose between roast pork tenderloin in a warm apricot sauce, chicken piccata in a lemon caper sauce, or spinach and ricotta cannelloni in marinara sauce (vegetarian). Dinner also includes citrus salad with Mandarin oranges, almonds and cider vinaigrette, assorted dinner rolls, oven-roasted red potatoes and a vegetable medley with a balsamic glaze. For dessert, enjoy chocolate cake with coffee or tea.

To reserve a spot, detach the adjoining coupon and send to Kathy Krieger at 1150 Can

yonwood Court, No. 5, Walnut Creek, CA 94595. The cost is $55 per person, and checks are to be made payable to Stanford Club of Rossmoor. For Stanford alums only, registration can also be made at https://groups.stanford.edu/events/284602 on the Stanford Alumni Association website.

The reservation deadline is Monday, Oct. 12. Those with questions can email or call Kathy Krieger (katharinekrieger@gmail.com or 1-925-988-9506) or Rich Umanzio (rich.umanzio@gmail.com or 1-925-699-2199). The Stanford Club thanks residents and looks forward to seeing them soon!

By Computer Club

The Computer Club of Rossmoor is recruiting additional instructors for its popular Flash Class program. At this time the club is particularly looking for individuals who can teach classes in PC applications such as in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but other topics for classes are also welcome.

Instructors do not have to be IT professionals – or know every command in programs – to be an effective Flash Class instructor. Computer Club instructors focus on narrow topics of their choosing, conveying skills or knowledge that can be shared in

a single 45- to 60-minute class for club members.

Flash Classes have covered subjects as diverse as using smartphone apps like Safeway 4 U or Apple Wallet, formatting Word documents, basic photo editing, and an introduction to AI. These classes can be taught remotely via Zoom or to a small group in the Computer Center classroom at Gateway.

New instructors do not have to be a member of the Computer Club, but, if not, their status as volunteer instructors will gain them free membership entitling them to house calls and attendance at all Flash Classes. Support for first-time instructors is available.

The Flash Class program is an important member benefit, and the instructors are supported by the functions of several board members. The Flash Class manager works directly with the instructors to generate the monthly list of classes to be offered. Publicity for the classes occurs through the twice-monthly Kilobytes newsletter for members and a monthly article in the Rossmoor News.

The automated class enrollment process is overseen by the membership manager. This process sends reminder emails to class enrollees, handles cancellations and wait-list communication. Thus, the Flash Class instructors are freed from administrative tasks and can focus on developing and teaching their classes.

Contact Len Jacobson, Flash Class manager, at lenj2@comcast.net if interested or wanting more information in being an instructor.

The Computer Club of Rossmoor is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Rossmoor residents enjoy the benefits of computers and technology. Certain services are available only to members. To join the Computer Club, go to www.caccor. com and click on the Join button on the home page, or go to the “Members” tab for information. The annual membership fee is $15. The Computer Club may also be reached via email at caccor@comcast.net for additional information.
