Residents who need to dispose of e-waste are reminded not to place it in the landfill bins but instead call Rapid Recycle for pickup.

Rapid Recycle will come into Rossmoor to pick up e-waste – basically anything with a cord or that needs a battery (though the service doesn’t take the actual batteries).

Residents can call 1-925-671-9008 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to schedule a pickup. All items must be placed outside and easily visible on the scheduled date. A minimum of 10 appointments for the scheduled day are required for the truck to pick them up.

Among the items that Rapid Recycle will collect are computers and peripherals, radios, phones, smoke detectors (mi-

nus the batteries), wires and cords, metal tables, handheld appliances and scrap metals.

Televisions also will be picked up but a name, address and phone number are required and large, projection style or plasma televisions require an additional handling fee of $22 (paid by the resident).

Rapid Recycle also takes appliances, such as microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, water heaters and more. Most appliances require a fee for pickup.

There are quite a few items that Rapid Recycle will not accept, among them: hazardous waste, including paint, mattresses and tires. Hazardous waste is accepted at 4797 Imhoff Place, Martinez (800-646-1431).
